If you've been with EVE for long, you know how much we love graphic organizers! A simple but very useful graphic organizer is the timeline. A timeline is a type of graphic organizer that readers can utilize to aid in the comprehension and visualization of a sequence of events. Timelines provide the reader with a visual of important events in linear form.
Students can use a timeline to keep track of important dates and events in a story or article.
Timelines may include dates, the names of the events themselves, and descriptions of the events if desired. Students can even add pictures to aid in comprehension and retention of material.
While they can be used in all content areas, timelines are a great graphic organizer to use in social studies or history class. You can find some example timelines (and a timeline freebie) here.
